History

FF.33 seaplane prototype was designed and built by company Friedrichshafen Flugzeugbau GmbH in 1914. as an unarmed reconnaissance seaplane. In 1915. developed version of FF 33E prototype has passed the test in June. Serial production started in July 1915. and lasted until February 1917. Total of 172 seaplanes were built FF.33 seaplanes were introduced to service in August 1915., Its task was to patrol the area on the North Sea and Baltic Sea. One of the seaplanes FF.33 No "814" was shipped to the auxiliary cruiser “Wolf” and sailed with her in a corsair raid on the Indian Ocean and Pacific in the period November 1916 - February 1918. The plane is named by the crew: “Wolfchen” (Wolf cub) served roles scouts, looking from the air for Allied ships and guided parent ship to intercept them. Technical Description FF.33 plane was biplane two-seater wooden hydroplane float. Fuselage was covered with metal sheet (front) and plywood (rest of surface) attached to the truss construction. Double girder wings were fabric covered. Classic tail covered with fabric. Airplane was powered by Benz Bz III engine with capacity of 150HP. Cooler Box is suspended above the engine from the edge of the upper panel. Two blade wooden propeller was fitted. Radios were installed on some aircraft.
