55th Infantry Regiment was an elite unit in 14th Infantry Division of the Polish Army. Formed by insurgents from Greater Poland Voievodship as 1st Infantry Regiment in 1919. When Greater Poland joined Poland State in 1919 unit was sent as relief force to the city Lvov encircled by Ukrainians. Then joined 14 Infantry Division defending Bobruysk on Berezina river in 1920. Bolshevik armoured cars Fiat-Iżorski "Gen. Dowbor" i Austin-Putiłow "Poznanczyk" ex "Stienka Razin" were captured (by 56th Rgt). When Bolsheviks started offensive towards Warsaw Division delayed their advance in Summer 1920. Then concentrated at Deblin 14th Division was involved in Polish Army counterattack on Bolshevik flank on 16th August 1920. 55th Regiment was leading Division forces in encircling and then destroying Red Army troops in East/North of Warsaw.
